My Own Senior Fitness Journey

I've been underweight most of my adult life. While this might not seem so unfortunate to some, low self-esteem affected my relationships and limited my social interests.

Desperate for change, I began an aggressive strength training regimen in my late 30's and managed to pack on 40 pounds of lean muscle tissue in a relatively short amount of time. I felt more confident and outgoing and was inspired to help others improve their well-being through fitness. I joined the fitness industry and worked as a  trainer and group fitness instructor during my 40's. I loved helping my clients transform into better versions of themselves. Life was never better.

In my late 40's, arthritis attacked my joints. I had an unfortunate shoulder surgery which left me with limited mobility and constant pain. I was no longer able to train consistently throughout my 50's and resorted to 1200 mg of naproxen a day to try and stay ahead of the chronic pain. Arthritis took over my hip and I relied on a cane to get around. Eventually was forced to get a hip replacement. During these years I also ruptured a bicep tendon and underwent 2 separate hernia repairs. I lost all of the muscle I'd gained and once again lost confidence in myself.

Several years ago I began training again but quickly discovered that the approach which produced consistent gains 20 years earlier were no longer paying off. I studied the effects of aging on the body's response to exercise and began experimenting with new ideas and approaches. Soon I was seeing consistent improvement and regaining the lost muscle tissue. I also became more focused on the importance of nutrition in the success of a fitness program and picked up a nutrition coaching certification. I've studied the latest fitness-based rehabilitation programs and have managed to regain most of the lost range of motion in my shoulders and hip. I'm now stronger and more agile than I've been in 15 years with less pain.

Maybe you've been told you need to lose weight to lower your risk of cardiovascular disease or diabetes.

Maybe you simply decided it's time to take control and get in front of the aging process.

Or maybe you're looking for a fun and challenging activity you can do by yourself or with your spouse.

Whatever your situation, I'm here to help you on your journey every step of the way.
